Volunteer Centre Tameside is recruiting volunteers to join the Community Action Team. This new and exciting project is funded by Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and trains volunteers to carry out Home Fire Risk Assessments in people’s homes. Volunteers need to like people, be interested in fire safety and be able to communicate well. Volunteers will assess the risk by asking a series of questions and then making observations as they do an accompanied tour of the house. Car drivers are welcome but this is not essential to the role. Training, equipment, clothing and expenses are provided.

For more details contact David at the Volunteer Centre on 0161 339 2345 or visit the Volunteer Centre at 95 Penny Meadow, Ashton under Lyne.

FREE Home Fire Risk Assessments

The Community Action Team is available now to visit your home and carry out a Home Fire Risk Assessment on behalf of Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service. The team will fit smoke detectors if needed and provide other fire prevention equipment (where appropriate). Advice and information will also be offered. This service, including equipment is provided FREE to all Tameside residents.

To book an appointment ring 0161 339 2345 and ask to speak to Paul or David. Don’t delay ring today!

Volunteer Centre Tameside (VCT) is developing a volunteer car scheme to ensure that appointments are met and patients receive the medical attention they desperately need. Many people find it difficult to get to hospitals, dentists’ surgeries, chiropodists, health centres, or even their GP’s surgeries on time if they cannot use public transport easily, and yet do not qualify for the ambulance service.

The scheme involves volunteers using their own vehicles to take patients to and from various health related appointments.

An important part of the scheme is the befriending element which many of our older passengers really appreciate, so if you have a few hours to spare and would like to make a huge difference to the life of an older person, volunteer now to become a volunteer driver. In return for your time you will receive full training and volunteer expenses of 40p per mile.

If you have your own vehicle and would like to get involved or for more information, contact Sue Vickers or Julliette Atkinson at Volunteer Centre Tameside on 0161 339 2345, email office@tamesidevb.org.uk, or visit: www.tamesidevb.org.uk

Arts About Manchester  - Open city Volunteers Required

Are you someone who has a passion for the arts and who enjoys attending a particular venue or art form? Do you have an interest in people and the world around you? Do you have empathy and understanding of issues relating to individuals who feel they can not attend the arts because of various barriers, who are therefore unable to benefit from what the arts can offer? Would you be interested in playing a part in supporting such individuals to be able to encourage them into the arts and to enjoy this social activity that you find so valuable? If so, you may be interested in contacting Arts About Manchester (AAM) the audience development consortium for Greater Manchester.

AAM are currently looking for eager people who are interested in becoming trained volunteers for a project called Open City. This project requires volunteers who are willing and able to undergo one bi-monthly training session and to attend meetings at AAM with colleagues. Volunteers must commit to a community group (which will be suitably paired with them and their interests) consisting of at least five people, for anything longer than six months.  During this time volunteers are expected to meet with their group and attend an arts venue between four and six times.

This volunteering project is not for the faint hearted.  The role will most likely present many challenges and may be emotionally demanding; however it should also be enjoyable and rewarding.

If you are interested please contact either:
Emma Walker (Open City project manager),  Tel: 0161234 2961
Emily Brogden (Open City recruitment co-ordinator), Tel: 07817 420877
